Encounter Cafés in Westen

Language Cafés: German for everybody
Every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. there are language courses for learning German at the Amtshaus in Westen. There are three teachers who form different subgroups depending on the level of knowledge of the participants, which are taught in different rooms at the same time.
Children are welcome to come along.
Driving service: It would be great if people could still come forward to drive the learners from the surrounding districts to the lessons!
Children's clothing and toys
The sports club Hämelhausen has collected children's clothes and toys in large quantities. The clothes are sorted by size and handed over in boxes.

Adult clothing
Clothes for adults are available at the 'Kleiderstube Westen' in the former Funda Inn. Here, refugees can get clothes and bedding every Wednesday from 3pm-5pm (and at other times by appointment). All second-hand goods are in excellent condition. The first 'purchase' is free of charge, a small monetary donation is requested for all subsequent purchases.

The community of Hönisch has also set up a temporary clothing store on private initiative. If you are interested, just send an e-mail to and we will pass on the phone number of the organizer (she speaks Ukrainian).

Schoolbags
Refugees can easily get new school bags free of charge from the association Hafensänger und Puffmusiker e.V.. Simply send an e-mail to: (Please include the following information: Grade level, gender and address of the child, contact phone number).
Fruit and vegetables for donation
Every Friday morning, Gemüseabo GmbH provides fresh fruit and vegetables as a donation, from organic/ecological cultivation, after making an appointment by phone. The pick-up can take place at the agreed time (between 8 am and 12 pm).

Vouchers for grocery stores
As an immediate aid, the association Hafensänger und Puffmusiker e.V. (H&P) is giving away vouchers for grocery stores to bridge the time until the government aid is paid out.
The voucher value is 50 € per family (depending on the number of persons also more).
The association also issues H&P vouchers for the purchase of new underwear (20 € per person). The association buys the vouchers in surrounding stores and gives them to the refugees to redeem.

It is also possible to buy the most necessary things first and have the costs reimbursed (up to the amount of the vouchers) upon presentation of the receipts.
Free SIM cards
Free SIM cards (internet and telephone charges Ukraine / Germany) You can get free SIM cards in the Telekom Shop in Bremen or Hanover. You must be there in person and have a passport with you.
